Inappropriate TV= Poor Sleep Habits

I'm sure we all know that if kids watch inappropriate tv such as scary movies that it's going to effect their sleep. What I didn't know is that if preschoolers watch television shows that are just slightly too old for them, it will also effect their sleeping habits. I read an article in USA Today that stated just that! Researchers found out that preschoolers feel overwhelmed by shows like SpongeBob and Scooby Doo and by watching these types of shows it creates bad sleep habits with disruptive sleep. And as we all know, when a child is tired it also effects their behavior during the day. So we can safely assume that SpongeBob=Poor Sleep=cranky preschoolers= stressed out parents.

I have given this article some thought and I have to admit that although I don't allow SpongeBob in my home, I have been known to enjoy some episodes of Scooby Doo with Remie and Charlotte. Because I believe that children NEED sleep and thrive when good sleep habits are formed, I'm going to encourage other age appropriate shows in the house instead of our beloved Scooby Doo!

Oh Yeah, do EVERYTHING YOU CAN to encourage good sleep. My theory is "bedtime is for the parents!!"

Love this! We try to keep the tv off when Mike gets home until Ellen goes to bed. That way she can unwind and get ready for bed without stimulation. I like to keep it on in the background during the day, but Ellen only gets to watch Sesame Street when she is feeling yucky.
