Isaac's Surgery and Other Tidbits

This week we have been busy making our new house our home. We have finally put pictures on the walls and emptied the dreaded misc box of crap. I should admit that I just dumped the misc box straight into a drawer in our den hoping to never have to make a decision about where that stuff actually belongs.

We also got some quotes for a fence for our yard, trimmed the overgrown trees and bushes and found 3 hornets nests in our yard. When I say we "found 3 hornets nests" I actually mean that Remie found them only after being chased by swarms of hornets around our yard. I had to make an emergency trip to Kroger to buy Raid for our little house pests.

In the midst of all of that, on Wednesday Isaac had his tonsils removed. I really thought it would be an easy peazy surgery like when they took out his adenoids. I wasn't worried one bit and couldn't wait for him to have relief from those humongous tonsils.

I'm not normally a Beaumont Hospital fan because I really HATE their labor&delivery units. But after researching pediatric ENTs, I found that the best doctor in Michigan was in fact a Beaumont doctor. Beaumont's children's hospital is pretty great. They have everything to make your little one feel confortable before their upcoming surgery.

Here is Isaac watching Finding Nemo while waiting for surgery.

Isaac got some medicine to help him relax and then they took him back to quickly chop off his tonsils. The surgery was over lickity split and his doctor came out to tell us that everything went perfectly. She said the entire surgical team was very impressed with the size of his tonsils. I had to bite my tongue from asking if they made sure they chopped off his tonsils not his testicles.

About a half hour later we were told we could go into the recovery room and see Isaac. I was not at all prepared for what I was about to see. We walked in and Isaac was sitting up, screaming, crying and coughing like he was going to throw up. He had 4 nurses surrounding him trying to calm him down. He wouldn't relax so he was given some strong medicine to help him do so. He almost immediately went to sleep while Remie and I looked at each other in disbelief. I had to keep reminding us that Isaac was going to be ok, it was only his tonsils and thankfully nothing more serious.

When Isaac woke up from his medicine induced slumber he was still a bit agitated. I tried to soothe him and he kept yelling at me not to touch him. I really didn't know what else to do to help him.

Finally the nurse said we could take Isaac home. I was surprised that they'd allow us to leave with him in such a fragile state but I was looking forward to getting the little guy home. Once home, Isaac took a looooong nap and woke up a bit happier. His brother and sisters bought him little surprises to make him feel better and it lifted Isaac's mood.

Here is Isaac trying to eat a soft banana.

Isaac has been steadily getting better and stronger. He is still pretty tired during the day and needs to lay down quite a bit after any activity. Right now the hardest part is keeping him still. He's supposed to lay around for a week after surgery. Today is day 3 and I'm already yelling at him to stop running around. I guess that's a good thing!
