4 Month Check up

Charlotte's check up with the doctor today went great. She is up to 13lbs, 2 oz and 23 3/4 inches long. She is in the 50th percentile for her height and weight which I am not used to at all! Remie was so big that he was always in the 95th percentile for everything! My little girl also has a little head, it's only 39 1/2 cm which puts her less than the 25th percentile. I was a little worried that her head is so small but Dr. Schomaker said that she is right on track and that her head has always been small....I had to disagree, that noggin felt HUGE when I was pushing her out! ha ha! We also talked about starting Charlotte on cereal because she is officially "of age". I expressed my desire to wait until she is 6 months old to start cereal because she is thriving while only on breastmilk. She sleeps 13 hours a night and takes 2-3 naps a day, she is content and gaining the appropriate amount of weight. Dr. Schomaker agreed and was surprised that I was not like most moms who are eager to start cereal right at 4 months old. I just dont think that there is any advantage to starting cereal when she is already doing so well without it.

I also have been having issues with Remie waking up in the middle of the night screaming. This is not normal for my little man because he is usually such a good sleeper. I asked the doc about it and he said it sounded like Remie is having night terrors. The name is a lot scarier than it actually is. Remie is actually asleep when he is screaming so he doesn't remember anything in the morning. We were told to keep Remie on a strict schedule because sometimes any variation in his day is what causes him not to sleep as soundly. Also, because Remie is potty training, we are to limit all liquids after dinner. It's possible that the urge to pee is stirring him slightly and that is why he is screaming at night. Dr. Schomaker said that this can last until he is 5! UGH! I certainly hope that he is wrong!

Oh Vicki honey ...I'am sorry but the doctor is right!!! those night 'terrors' are just that terrors. Timmy had them and he got over them around 6 and Emmy is actually still having them.. they both started around age 2 and while they were not EVERY night they still were bothersome... something I did to try and reduce them was ( and still do) limit t.v. shows like spongebob,(hate taht stupid show)... for instance I would put on soothing music like lullabies, when they were much younger (Remies age) and as they aged I would change it too and now (still do) is soft Christian music possibly a c.d. you have made with only slow songs not to heavy not upbeat..you know what I mean? I play it all night on low in her room and it seems to do the trick we average about 3 a month right now but it sure is better then every other day like before!!
Hope some of this helps...

i had night terrors for awhile when i was a kid....and i know it wasn't fun for my parents!! sorry you have to go through that.

kudos to you for not putting charlotte on cereal b/c she's doing so well on breast milk! it seems like so many people just do what they are "supposed" to do at the time, instead of what is really necessary - i mean, isn't cereal something they should eat when the milk isn't enough? anyway, go you!
