My morning started out so nice. I met my friend Jen at Tim Hortons for coffee and enjoyed about 45 minutes of adult conversation! When I got home, my OB's office called. The head nurse Dianne informed me that I failed my one hour glucose test! Ugh! For those of you that are unfamiliar with what a glucose test is, most healthcare practitioners routinely recommend a glucose screening test (also called a glucose challenge test or GCT) between 24 and 28 weeks of pregnancy to check for gestational diabetes, a high blood sugar condition that some women get during pregnancy.Like any screening test, this one won't give you a diagnosis — it's designed to identify as many women as possible who may have a problem and need more testing to find out. So a positive result doesn't mean that you have gestational diabetes. In fact, only about a third of women who test positive on the glucose screen actually have the condition. So, I have to undergo further testing next Tuesday. My blood will be drawn multiple times for 3 hours after drinking more of the wonderful sugar drink that I previously posted about. When I was pregnant with Remie, I failed my one hour test and then ended up passing the three hour. I am not too concerned about the outcome, it's just a hassle having to undergo the extra testing. As all mothers know, we will do anything to make sure are children are safe and healthy.
