Today I had my 16 week OB appointment.
They did my quad screening to detect if the baby has any genetic disorders. The quad screening is a simple bloodtest that measures high and low levels of AFP, abnormal levels of hCG and estriol, and high levels of Inhibin-A. The results are combined with my age and ethnicity in order to assess probabilities of potential genetic disorders. It takes a few days to get the results but I am completely confident that the baby is healthy!
Dr. Gilbert also listened to the baby's heart beat which was 150 bpm. It's so nice to hear the heart beat to confirm that there really is a baby in my belly and that the extra weight gain isn't just from all the Oreos I've been eating! It's surprising that I only gained 1 lb in the past 4 weeks (3 lbs total) with all that I have been eating! I guess exercising and chasing after Remie David is helping burn the extra calories that the baby isn't using!
