Today I chaperoned Charlotte's kindergarten field trip to Upland Hills Farm. Our first stop at the farm was at the barn for an "animal demonstration". The farmer brought out a large, pregnant dairy cow and Charlotte exclaimed, "MOM LOOK AT THAT HORSE!!". I explained that it was a cow and pointed at her utters. Because Charlotte is 5 and knows everything, she argued with me that I was wrong and it was obviously a horse....until Farmer Ben introduced the "horse" as Fern the dairy COW...

Next Farmer Ben showed us the chickens and roosters. If you know me at all, you know that any type of bird scares the bejesus out of me. Now I'm sure you're wondering why I'd want to raise chickens if I'm scared of birds. My plan was to sacrifice the children oops... I mean have the children take care of feeding the chickens and collecting eggs while I benefited from fresh eggs. So anyway... when the farmer took out the rooster, I kept my cool because it was far enough away that I felt safe-ish. But then the jackass farmer opens this hidden cabinet type thing and takes out 2 large geese. GEESE!!!! Omg I hate geese most of all! I swear they used to actually chase me around the campus of OU. The farmer puts the geese on the ground and they start running and honking all over the place! Did I mention we were in THE VERY FIRST ROW??!!!! I was seconds away from running out the door while peeing myself. I think the farmer saw my look of panic because he grabbed up the geese and put them back in their hiding places. Phew!
(There was no picture taken of the geese due to a near death experience for the photographer)

After the barn "incident" we went on a hayride. That was a joy. My allergies flared up due to being immersed in nature and I was coughing and sneezing the entire trip. The sweet unsupervised children on the hayride made it so much better for me by throwing hay at each other. I was less than pleased and was "that mom" that yelled at everyone else's kids.

All in all, we had a great time at the farm. It was a picture perfect day but I am happy to be back home in the city!
