I’ve always
been one of those moms that wasn’t scared of her newborn baby getting germs or
sick. I’ve never insisted that people wash their hands before holding the
little miracle. My theory was that because I was breastfeeding I was giving my
baby the best defense against illnesses and if the little dear did get sick then
it was either now or when they go to kindergarten.
That sort of
thinking changed when Isaac was 3 months old and was admitted to the hospital
for an illness that caused many problems that we are still dealing with today.
We spent a week of hell in the hospital trying to get my baby better and then
when he was discharged we were greeted with a “tried to get stolen but failed” minivan
in the parking garage. It was a mess and I never want to go through that again.
With baby groundhog’s
due date fast approaching and smack dab in the middle of cold/flu season, I
will be turning into mega crazy germaphobe mommy.
YOU’VE BEEN WARNED
Please don’t
be offended when I ask you to wash your hands before admiring my precious
bundle. If you have even the slightest tickle in your throat, I’ll probably ask
you to wait a few weeks before visiting the baby. It’s nothing against you,
just those little germs you carry around with you that aren't welcome.
Thanks!
