Today Charlotte had a follow up appointment with her pediatrician to determine how well her new medications were working. Dr. Schomaker and I discussed her GERD issues and that her medication isn't working as well we had hoped. She is still choking while eating and she has been spitting up more frequently than before the medicine. We checked her weight and she is a whopping 9lbs 8oz already! She has gained a total of 17oz since her last appointment 12 days ago! We were shocked because normally babies gain about 1/2oz-1oz a day. Dr. Schomaker said that her medicine might not be working as well as it should because the amount that we have been giving her is too little for her enormous weight (He didn't call her enormous, those were my words). So he increased her dosage but also refered us to a Gastro specialist. Dr. Schomaker wanted to make sure that we are on the right track for her GERD treatment and that is why he wants us to go to the specialist.
